Behind Closed Doors
Behind Closed Doors is a satirical audio drama about the judging of a contemporary arts prize.
The Joshua Prize always delivers controversy, reputations are won and lost, but not usually for the judging panel. Through the eyes of Yvette Somerland, artist and previous year’s winner, we see that ‘The Establishment’ at it’s least venerable and most venal.
The play was inspired by Sophocles Antigone and the theme of judgement:
“Those who have puffed themselves up with great words have been dealt great blows. In old age, they have learned judgement.”
Antigone was famously shut up in a cave, for acting on the values she held dear. Behind Closed Doors is a play on the ways in which women with values that contradict powerful men are ‘shut up’.
